Apple currently uses Intel-based processors for its Mac PCs and ARM-based Ax series processors for its iPod touch, iPhone and iPad.
But the latest report from Bloomberg claims Apple is looking into replacing Intel chips from its Mac lineup with the ARM-based ones.
Although such a move is unlikely to happen in the next few years, Bloomberg’s sources believe it is “inevitable” as the features and performance between a mobile device and a computer is blurring by the day.
The move, if it happens, will be a big blow to Intel since ARM-based chips are known for its power efficiency and the chip design could enable Apple to make new Macs slimmer and lighter.
