Samsung and Sony today dissolved their partnership to manufacture LCD panels. The joint venture known as S-LCD will be taken over by Samsung Electronics after a payment of about $940 million for the share transfer.
Meanwhile, Sony and Samsung also entered into a new agreement where Sony will have a regular supply of LCD panels manufactured by S-LCD. The move is in fact a smart one by Sony as they’ll be free from production or any other overhead costs and will pay according to prevalent market prices.
Samsung on the other hand, expects to streamline the production and business operations of the subsidiary which will enable them to meet their own as well as customer demands in a timely manner.
