The decision to digitize education has always been met with wary eyes but here is South Korea trying to do away with the textbooks in the age of technology. The country’s education ministry will pump in $2.4 billion to change from textbooks to tablets, smartphones and computers. South Korea expects to switch the entire curriculum by 2015 with elementary-level education being the first one to get digitized in 2014.
The government hasn’t zeroed in the device yet but it will be interesting to see if they cut a deal with Apple for the iPad or rather go with the local international players like Samsung or LG for their Galaxy Tab and Optimus Pad respectively.
