Sony’s Masaru Kato, vice president and chief financial officer confirmed in an investor conference call that they’re already working on the PS3 successor. Although PS3’s shelf life is still few years away, Sony is incurring some costs in building up the PS4.
“For the home equipment the PS3 still has a product life but this is a platform business, so for the future platform – when we’ll be introducing what product I cannot discuss that – but our development work is already under way, so the costs are incurred there.”
The above statement contradicts to that of SCE’s Kaz Hirai a few months back who turned down the PS4 rumor saying “next-generation home console is not something that we are even debating now.”
