Samsung has started mass producing its 30nm-class process based low power DDR2 RAM. It is industry’s first 4Gb LPDDR2 to be mass produced and is said to be a perfect fit for next-generation smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices that boasts a superior data transmission speed of 1,066Mbps as compared to MDDR’s 333-400Mbps.
Higher density RAMs mean manufacturers can integrate more memory in their devices, enabling to reduce the overall size. When compared to an older 1GB (8Gb) LPDDR2 package, two 4Gb DRAMs stacked together reduces package height by 20 percent and consume 25 percent less power.
Samsung will produce 1GB DRAMs (8Gb) using these 4Gb LPDDR2s from this month whereas a 2GB DRAM (16Gb) production will begin from next month.
