TI is looking to up the game in the System-on-Chip arena with the newly announced OMAP 5 platform. The new platform is touted to create “disruptive mobile experiences” in the next-generation mobile devices like smart phones, tablets etc by integrating two 28nm-based ARM Cortex-A15 processors that helps to increase computing performance by 3x and 3D graphics improvement by 5times which at the same time reducing power consumption by 60 percent compared to the OMAP 4 platform.
The new platform brings support for stereoscopic 3D in full HD quality, pico projection support, real-time conversion of 2D to 3D, augmented reality, up to 4 parallel cameras, 3 hi-res LCDs support, wireless streaming and more.
TI will start sampling the OMAP 5 platform in 2H2011 with first devices expected to reach the market by 2H 2012.
