Nintendo who has been piling up cash reserves for the last few years felt the first pinch yesterday when they posted a six-month loss, a first in seven years. However, Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata has confirmed that they won’t be cutting Wii’s price to lure new buyers. Instead they’ll offer limited details and special packages to make a user purchase worthwhile by adding an additional game or other accessories.
Holiday season is just around the corner and this kind of proposition makes sense. The Wii currently retails for $200 but adding a $25-50 worth of accessory or a game will give “buyers a feeling of a discount.”
Iwata however, didn’t rule out the price cut in the long run.
