Sprint’s event yesterday in San Francisco saw three Android phones launched along with a new service. The phones launched were LG Optimus S, Sanyo Zio, Samsung Transform and Sprint ID service that will now allow users to choose what sort of ID packs consisting of apps, ringtones etc. they want on their phone. In short, now users have the option to choose what bloatware they want on the phone or keep it bland as it was shipped.
LG’s Optimus S is the cheapest of the lot that will cost just $49.99 to own on a contract but packs decent features. The phone supports Sprint ID and features Android 2.2 OS, 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen display, 3.2MP camera, virtual QWERTY keyboard, Visual Voicemail, access to Android market, Mobile Hotspot support and microSD card slot (up to 32GB). Optimus S will sell in all Sprint retail channels from October 31.
Moving up the ladder is Sanyo Zio that costs $99.99 under contract. It will be available from October 10 and includes Sprint ID support, Android 2.1 OS, 3.5-inch WVGA touchscreen display, 3.2MP camera with video recording support, GPS, digital compass, trackball, 512MB internal memory and microSD card slot.
Finally, it’s the Samsung Transform that brings a physical QWERTY keyboard. Transform is like Epic 4G but sans the 4G goodness. This phone also supports Sprint ID and has Android 2.1 (Android 2.2 update promised), 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen display, 3.2MP camera with flash, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, microSD card slot. Transform will be also avalailble from October 10 for $149.99 on contract.
