Just Mobile Gum Plus Review

Our phones are not phones anymore. They’re our music player/video player/internet device/game console/camera, making a true convergence device. However, this piece of convergence has one source of power – the battery and it becomes difficult for us to keep our device charged all the time to suffice our needs.Thankfully, this issue is solved with mobile battery packs that stores some amount of power allowing you to charge your shiny gadget anywhere anytime, without needing to find an electricity slot.

Just Mobile from Taiwan also sells its mobile battery pack, known as Gum Plus. Now although Just Mobile pitches the battery pack for iPhone, iPod and iPad, the Gum Plus basically works with any gadget that charges through USB.

Actually Gum Plus’ affiliation to Apple devices comes from the fact that it is certified by Apple and sports a very minimalistic design akin to Apple devices. The Gum Plus comes in a shiny aluminum enclosure with five small LED capacity indicators on the front. In fact, Gum Plus has bagged is a Red Dot Design Award Winner for its design.

The Gum Plus package is minimal too, which includes the battery pack, a miniUSB cable, iPod data cable and a carry pouch.

Now making the Gum Plus work is not rocket science. Just press the small on/off button on the the Gum Plus, hook it up with your shiny gadget with the compatible USB cable and you’re all set. Gum Plus stores a good 4400mAh of power that gives you multiple recharges before it runs out of juice and also charges at a fast speed due to the 1000mAh output current it provides. The battery pack’s status is indicated with the 5 green LEDs.

Gum Plus does have its advantages but we think it could be better if it allowed charging more than a single gadget at the same time and even allowed charging the pack through an electricity slot for quick charging. Charging the Gum Plus to full capacity over USB 2.0 takes a lot of time.

Overall, we feel Gum Plus is a must have for those who always charge their phone or other gadgets multiple times a day or travelers who don’t have the freedom to search for AC charging slots.

The Just Mobile Gum Plus can be bought from their online store for about 65 euros.

This is a great upgrade to the previous Mobile Gum. It charges my iphone in no time, and the JMGP battery charge lasts forever.
