In a bid to stop kids getting addicted to online gaming, the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism have announced an initiative to bar underage kids from online computer gaming at midnight. Gamers will be given three options — midnight-6 a.m.,1-7 a.m., and 2-8 a.m after which the player will be booted off the game for six hours.
The ministry says such a move can deter online gaming addiction amongst teenagers. Moreover, the internet connection will also be crippled in case of underaged users found online for extended periods of time.
The current slowdown scheme is currently being tested amongst four popular games in South Korea and will be extended to other 19 role playing games that account for about 79 percent in SK.
We’re wary of this scheme’s success but it’s a good initiative nonetheless.
