Qualcomm has filed an application with the Indian Government that will allow them to bid in the upcoming BWA (Broadband Wireless Access) auction for the 2.3GHz band spectrum. The bidding is to facilitate and accelerate the deployment of TD-LTE that will enable Indian consumers to experience broadband speeds here as well as on international roaming.
LTE’s advantage is that it supports 2G, 3G WCDMA/HSPA and EV-DO standards making it cost efficient and will hopefully bring a broad choice of wireless broadband devices at affordable price points.
Qualcomm has also laid down its plans if they happen to win the spectrum. In compliance with the Indian Foreign Direct Investment, Qualcomm will seek Indian partners to create a TD-LTE infrastructure and a device ecosystem that will benefit India’s broadband plans.
