Previous rumors suggest that Nintendo could unveil the Wii successor this year but at the Nintendo Summit, Nintendo US marketing executive Cammie Dunaway turns the probability down. Speaking to Gamespot, she said “I don’t think it will be any time soon.”
Dunaway thinks since PS2 had an installed base of over 50m, Wii at 28m “still has a lot of room to grow”.
However, she did confirm that they’re working on a console and will launch it when the time is ripe.
“That being said, part of Nintendo’s heritage is to always be looking at innovation and to start working on new hardware as soon as we launch a platform, so we’ll have it ready when we think the time is right.”
