X-Mini II Capsule Speaker Review

Portable speakers for your laptop and music players are available aplenty but to find something that possesses portability as well as decent audio output could be a daunting task. This speaker from Singapore-based X-Mini claims to fulfill both the criterions but does it deliver? We delve to check it out.

The X-Mini Capsule Speaker is in its second generation and with the first glance, I asked to myself, “Does it really stand up to its company’s Unbelievably Loud claim?” Anyways, before I come to that part, here’s a quick look at the package contents and design.

X-Mini II Capsule Speaker Review

The package contents include the speaker, a USB cable with a 3.5mm audio jack, a pouch and manual.

X-Mini II Capsule Speaker Review

The question I asked before was because of its sheer size. The X-Mini II Capsule Speaker is small, measures 60mm×60 mm×44mm with a closed resonator yet its neatly designed integrating lots of things. The small speaker packs in a battery to provide music-on-the-go, a retractable 3.5mm audio jack, volume and a 40mm driver to deliver that “unbelievably loud” sound.

Making the X-Mini II work is as easy as removing it from the box. Hook the speaker to your laptop or any other device of your choice, start the speaker and play your music right away.

X-Mini’s tagline reads “Sound Beyond Size” and as soon as I turned the X-Mini II on, I guess I knew what they’re referring to. The X-Mini II is incredibly loud for its size and by loud it does not mean it compromises on sound quality. The quality was not the best, but very good. If you’re in need of a little bass, just twist the X-Mini II to reveal its Bass Xpansion System. Bass output is not as thumping as you’d expect but it’s obviously a plus to have something as it adds to the overall audio output, if not more.

X-Mini speaker also boasts something called as Buddy Jack. Buddy Jack is nothing but an extra 3.5mm audio port that allows the X-Mini II to pass on the audio to other connected speaker, effectively adding more loudness.

As mentioned before, X-Mini II comes with a built-in battery. As per the company’s claim, the X-Mini II speaker can run up to 11 hours on battery, but I got about 8.5 hours of playback. The speaker can be charged via the bundled mini-USB cable.

To conclude this up, X-Mini is offering a unique and stylish solution for those who’re seeking a decent audio output in a small footprint. Moreover, the icing on the cake is the price tag of just Rs.1400 (approx.) (US$30), X-Mini II fits the bill.

I just plugged in my X-Mini and I love it… really added an audio dimension to my cheap laptop… great sound for the money… The store where I bought it had an easy return policy, but no need to do it… Although my ear is not that discriminating, this little speaker more the meets my basic needs for reasonably good quality when compared to my built in speakers on my laptop.
