Uh oh! Looks like torrent downloaders will now have to find a new haven to download pirated content. Mininova, one of world’s largest torrent sites have decided to take down all the copyright infringing torrents and keep only those which are uploaded by way of its content distribution service.
The decision comes after the court ruled out that Mininova was not directly responsible for copyright infringement but to avoid penalty of up to 5 million Euros, must remove all the infringing torrents within three months.
Although Mininova has taken down the torrents, they’re still mulling on whether to appeal the decision or not. Niek from Mininova said, “we have appealed the verdict pro-forma, which gives the company more time to decide whether they will indeed continue with the appeal. As it looks now, a successful appeal is the only option for Mininova to bring all torrents back.”
