Sony has got a reason to celebrate. The pioneers of portable music who sells Walkman branded players, have for the first time in Japan surpassed sales of Apple’s iPod in more than four years. This verdict comes from an electronic research firm, BCN who claimed that the Walkman players share for the week ended on August 30 stood at 43 percent while iPod maintained a 42.1 percent market share.
According to BCN, Sony’s small triumph came from the launch of its W-Series Walkman player that currently
retails in the home market under 10,000 Yen ($108).
To keep things fair, the research firm has excluded sales of Apple’s iPhone and Sony Ericsson’s Walkman branded phones.
