Canon yesterday announced six digital cameras in the Powershot line that will cater to amateur photographers as well as users seeking some advanced control. The cameras unveiled were G11, S90, SX20 IS, SX120 IS, SD980 IS ELPH and SD940 IS ELPH.

Canon Powershot G11

Being the flagship series in the Powershot line, the G11 from the G-Series adds some meaty features in a compact chassis. The camera is powered by Canon’s DIGIC 4 imaging processor and is able to shoot pictures at 10 megapixel resolution with a 28mm wide-angle lens and 5x optical zoom.

Interesting feature G11 boasts is its 2.8-inch vari-angle LCD that is a swiveling LCD and helps to preview and review images from every angle. Other things you’ll find are the optical image stabilization, two mode dials for adjusting ISO and exposure, RAW image support and more. The camera will start appearing in stores in October carrying a price tag of $499.99.

Canon Powershot S90

Moving onto another Powershot, it’s the S90 that is said to borrow features from the G-Series and looks from the ELPH line. The S90 features a 28mm wide-angle f/2.0 lens along with a high sensitivity system sensor to produce better low-light photos. This one too can take pictures at 10MP and includes 3.8x optical zoom, optical image stabilization, 3-inch LCD, customizable control ring, subject tracking and 22 different shooting modes. It will also be available in October for $429.99.

Canon Powershot SX20 IS

Next up are the SX Series which includes SX20 IS and SX120 IS. Both the cameras tout higher optical zoom than the rest of the clan – SX20 IS gives 20x of optical zoom while SX120 IS gives half of it. Amongst other features, SX20 IS has a 12.1MP sensor, optical image stabilizer, 2.5-inch LCD, 720p recording and HDMI-out. SX120 IS on the other hand, has 10MP sensor, 3-inch LCD, image stabilization and easy mode to click pictures easily.

Canon Powershot SX120 IS

Both the cameras will be available from September for $399.99 (SX20 IS) and $249.99 (SX120 IS).

Canon Powershot SD980 IS

Finally the ELPH cameras – SD980 IS and SD940 IS. The cameras have the same 12.1MP sensor, optical image stabilizer, 720p video recording, HDMI-out but distinguishes themselves on some fronts.
