80GB PlayStation 3 to be discontinued?

August 4, 2009 By Kinjal Sangoi 2 Comments

ps3-notice

The exact reason is unknown except that it will be done on the manufacturer’s behest but the news from Japan comes that 80GB PS3 might be coming to an end of its shelf life. 7-Eleven, a Japanese retailer received this notice that mentions the “pre-orders for the Black, White and Silver 80GB PS3 will cease on Sunday, August 9 at 10am” and all in-store displays for the 80GB variant will also be taken down on the said date.

The only PS3 that will be up for sale will be a 160GB variant (or maybe there’s a PS3 Slim SKU waiting to be filled soon).
