UPDATE: Apple has confirmed the death. “We are saddened by the tragic loss of this young employee, and we are awaiting results of the investigations into his death. We require our suppliers to treat all workers with dignity and respect,” said Apple spokeswoman Kristin Huguet told CNET.
25 year-old Sun Danyong, a Foxconn employee committed suicide last week after he lost one of the prototypes of the fourth generation iPhone. The confession to the superior ensued an illegal search of Sun’s apartment, allegations and physical abuse which the freshly graduated employee could not cope with and ended his life by jumping from the window of his apartment.
This indeed is a sad incident and makes us ask the question who really is to be blamed for this? Apple for its notoriously high secrecy standards or Foxconn who respected Apple’s policy but disrespected its employee and resorted to such procedures? Whatever the case is, a human life is definitely worth more than a gadget’s secrecy. So we think.
