ARM already has a long list of licensees but LG’s agreement is a bit different because it will not use ARM to power mobile phones or smartbooks. Instead, they’ll use ARM technologies to power the next generation of Digital TVs. The integration of ARM CPU and GPU will be an important step for LG to give users a lot more than watching TV.
With the integration of ARM’s ARM11 MPCore multicore processor and Mali GPUs, LG wants consumers to have a Web 2.0 experience right in their TVs.
LG must have thought of something interesting but these are the few things we reckon will make its way soon – Flash, web apps, full HTML browser and games with decent graphics.
