At the press conference showing its summer lineup for Japanese operators, Panasonic shed some light on some interesting things for the future. Keisuke Ishii, director of the mobile business said that they are “seriously considering developing an Android phone and entering overseas mobile phone markets in fiscal 2010.”
The bait for the Japanese company is that the open source smartphone market will reach 100 million units by 2012 and if they can push in a couple or three Android devices in the market by that time, they have a chance to mint in some money. Maybe a two-way opening clamshell with 8 megapixel camera is what we’ll see from them.
Panasonic who withdrew from the international market during the monochrome display era is mulling to reenter by next year. The countries and other details have not been determined, said Ishii.
