You may find this as an exaggerated statement but ARM, who is bully on its Mali line of processors is dead serious. According Remi Pedersen, graphics product manager at ARM, Xbox like graphics is very much possible in mobile phones and he says it may take till later 2009 to fulfill his promise.
The trick to make the phone a powerful gaming device is the integration of OpenGL ES. The OpenGL ES 2.0, which the new Mali-200 and Mali-400 GPUs boast have shader capabilities. The Mali GPUs can anti-alias up to 16X without hampering the overall performance of the device. The Mali-400 features all the above qualities but is also multicore scalable.
ARM will be showing its technology at the Games Developers’ Conference next week where an Xbox ported version of Project Gotham Racer will be running on OpenGL ES supported hardware.
