I never expected this but the new buzz says that Motorola is diminishing its business operations so as to move out of India gradually. The reason stated is Motorola’s bad financial state, sliding economy and fierce competition from Nokia et al. Motorola had been laying off employees as a part of its global workforce resizing exercise but the aggressive downsizing of operation is what is pointing towards the imminent. Motorola has even pulled back many products from key distributors and is not providing back-end support in some cities.
On the other hand, Motorola’s spokesperson completely denied this rumor.
“We are not exiting operations and we are not shutting the telecom infrastructure division. India is an important geography for Motorola and the company continues to have customer partnerships and relationships across all its businesses. Motorola is aligning its Mobile Devices business in response to market conditions and so that we are focused on our top strategic priorities. In mobile devices, we are continuing to launch new products with innovative experiences for the Indian consumer.”
