While NEC is not the first phone to jump in the 12-megapixel sensor production fray, their new CE143 LSI chip is definitely the first one to capture still images at 12-megapixel and output videos at full HD resolution. The CE143 chip is a combination of a CMOS image sensor and image processing capabilities and will be exhibited at the MWC.
The chip integrates features like image stabilizer, shading correction face detection and noise reduction. The samples will be distributed from March 2009.
