Sagem Orga and BlueSky Positioning have announced that they are working on a new type of SIM card that incorporates a GPS receiver and an antenna. GPS feature is generally found in medium and high range phones, but with their SIM card even a sub-$50 handset can gain GPS functionality. The companies say with their SIM in place, it can give a rise to the usage of location-based services as also provide accurate positioning information of the phone during an emergency. The card will also support generic location-based services such as navigation, ‘find a place or person’ services and location-aware games.
