Hwang Chang-gyu of Samsung Electronics announced that they have developed a memory solution for mobile devices. The 512MB memory chip is a fusion of SRAM and DRAM which is called OneDRAM. This RAM will enable the devices to be more compact as it will have only one memory module instead of the usual two i.e. SRAM and DRAM. OneDRAM also reduces the power consumption by 30%, 50% less area required and more importantly, reduces the production cost. Samsung being optimistic, predicts that the OneDRAM market will reach $200 million by 2008 and a staggering $2.5 billion by 2011.
The mass production of the RAM will start in Q2 of 2007 and will be commercially available in the third quarter.
