Ok Intel, you were touting about the new quad core chips. But look here, these Japanese researchers from Tokyo University gave something to think about. They have developed a math processor better known as the Grape DR chip which features 512 cores and runs at 500MHz. the speed is not that to boast about but these cores split in 16 groups of 32 each were able to process a single type of floating point instruction. Another remarkable thing is that these researchers are striving for a design which deliver 2 Petaflops which comes to two quadrillion floating point instructions per second.
