Motorola finally announced the Moto X smartphone in United States yesterday. Although it will take the flagship tag for the Google subsidiary, the device seems weak when you compare with flagship phones of other manufacturers. At least on the specifications front.
However, Moto X shines on two aspects that will hopefully gather some consumer attention. First is the ability to design it and secondly it will be assembled in USA that will hopefully strike some ‘patriotic’ chord amongst American consumers. Using Moto Maker customers will be able to design their device on the basis of colours and decide on other details like the front, back, accents, memory, wallpapers or a short message. Motorola says there are over 2,000 combinations possible and will even offer a real wood back later this year.
On the hardware side, the Moto X features a 4.7-inch AMOLED (RGB) 720p HD display, Android 4.2.2 OS with Android 4.3 coming soon and powered by Motorola’s X8 processor along with 2GB RAM. Moto X will come in 16GB or 32GB variants and customers will also get 50GB of Google Drive storage for free for 2 years. Additionally, there’s Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, LTE support and 2200mAh battery.
Moto X will be available in the US, Canada and Latin America starting in late August/early September. US pricing stands at $199 with a 2-year agreement and if designing isn’t your forte, woven black and woven white models will be up for purchase via Best Buy and major US carriers.
