Seagate has announced that they’ve started shipping their ultrathin hard drives for laptops to OEM partners. The Laptop Ultrathin HDDs are just 5mm thin or about four credit cards stacked together and 3.3 oz in weight. Seagate says the thin form factor will allow laptop manufacturers as well as tablet makers to integrate a larger storage hardware without compromising on the size or the weight.
The 2.5-inch HDD comes in capacities of 320GB and 500GB, is 25 percent thinner than Seagate’s previous 7mm offering and supports 6Gb/s SATA interface and SED encryption.
Seagate Laptop Ultrathin HDD is priced at $99.
