The upgrade to the PlayStation 4, the PlayStation 5 will be arriving during holidays in 2020. This means the launch will be closer to Microsoft’s Xbox 2 console in November or December 2020. Although we do not have more details about the hardware specifications of the PlayStation 5 however, Sony has revealed that the new console will come with a new enhanced DualShock controller and probably might be called DualShock 5.
The new PlayStation 5 controller will feature haptic feedback that will replace the “rumble” technology found in controllers since the 5th generation of consoles. With haptics, the crashing into a wall in a race car feels much different than making a tackle on the football field. You can even get a sense of a variety of textures when running through fields of grass or plodding through mud.
The second innovation on the controller is called adaptive triggers by Sony. These are incorporated into the trigger buttons (L2/R2). These triggers can be programmed by game developers which give the feel of tactile sensation while drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an off-road vehicle on rocky terrain. Sony has shared the new controllers with Game developers for their feedback and the use of these new enhancements in their games.
