SanDisk introduces an external rugged SSD, portable SSD with USB Type-C

SanDisk 2TB SSD

Another important announcement to come from SanDisk is the Extreme 900 and Extreme 500 Portable SSDs. The Extreme 900 drives boasts up to 2TB of storage and transfer speed up to nine times faster than a regular HDD. In addition to superfast transfer speeds that goes up to 850MB/s, the drive comes with USB Type-C and Type-A cables that gives the user the liberty to use the new USB standard. The Extreme 900 will come in capacity options of 480GB, 960GB and 1.92TB and priced at $399.99, $599.99 and $999.99.

The SanDisk Extreme 500 Portable SSD is a compact, pocket-sized portable drive that is less than half the size of a smartphone and offers more than four times the speed of a portable hard drive. Able to transfer content at speeds of up to 415MB/s, the Extreme 500 offers enhanced durability with rubber bumpers to protect it from bumps and a metal ring that allows it to be clipped to a bag. The SanDisk Extreme 500 Portable SSDs will be available in capacities of 120GB, 240GB and 480GB, at $99.99, $149.99 and $239.99 respectively.

SanDisk says the new portable SSDs are built to sustain the most rugged environments, featuring both temperature and impact-resistant materials and even features SanDisk SecureAccess software with 128-bit encryption to secure files.
