You were wrong if you thought Microsoft nixing Nokia’s brand name for its Lumia smartphones was a death knell to Nokia’s iconic brand in the consumer space. Nokia Technologies, which is still a part of Nokia Inc. announced a new tablet dubbed N1 running Android OS.
Nokia will distinguish the N1 with its Nokia Z launcher interface that allows users to scribble a letter or two to find their content quickly.
Nokia expects to sell the tablet in China first for an estimated price of 249 euros in Q1 2015.
Do note that this tablet won’t be manufactured by Nokia but its OEM partner who’ll also be looking after the distribution and sales. Nokia is only licensing the design, Z launcher and the IP to the OEM partner.
Specs-wise, we’re looking at a tablet with a 7.9-inch display (2048×1536) in a 6.9mm thin body, Android Lollipop OS, 2.4GHz Intel Atom quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB internal memory, 8 megapixel main camera with 5 megapixel on the front and a reversible microUSB type-C connector.
