HTC India yesterday announced a slew of products, including the new RE camera. RE is an interesting take by HTC and frankly garners some attention. Designed like a periscope, the RE is equipped with a 16 megapixel CMOS sensor, 146-degree wide-angle lens and makes shooting videos or clicking images a breeze.
Interestingly, the RE does not have a viewfinder but the connected smartphone can act as one with the RE app. The camera supports Full HD (1080p) video recording, time lapse, slow motion and is even rated with IPx7 standard that makes it waterproof in under 1 meter water for 30 minutes.
Having played briefly with the device, I feel the camera has potential as it feels unobtrusive and compact enough to not get in the moment. HTC also plans to release a number of accessories as well that will help to enhance the functionality of the camera and the best part of all is that it works with any iOS device running iOS 7 and above and any Android smartphone running Android 4.3+.
HTC has priced the RE at an introductory price of Rs. 9,990 which if you compare it with the American price, it is about Rs. 2,000 cheaper. The camera will be available from November and will sell exclusively through Snapdeal.
