Nokia India has teamed up with government-owned New India Assurance (NIA) to offer insurance protection to Nokia handset buyers. Consumers buying handsets from Nokia branded retail stores will be eligible to buy an insurance plan that will protect the device against theft and accidental exterior & interior damage.
Admittedly, there will be some conditions and requirements before you file a claim but it is indeed a good initiative by Nokia in a country like India where mobile phone thefts and damages are pretty common. The service will also allow users to schedule a pickup of the handset in case of a damage, support cashless service and even gives standby devices and chargers while the original device is being repaired.
The service will be initially available in NCR/Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Pune, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Cochin, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
The insurance premium will be a minimum of Rs. 50 or 1.25% of the handset value.
