We’re still waiting for Tegra 4-powered devices to roll into the market but that doesn’t keep Nvidia back from revealing a new SoC – Tegra 4i aka Project Grey. Understandably, the Tegra 4i is an extension of the original Tegra 4 SoC but is powered by four ARM Cortex-A9 r4 opposed to Tegra 4’s Cortex-A15. The CPU is clocked at 2.3GHz, features 60 GPU cores and comes with Nvidia i500 LTE modem onboard, which the original Tegra 4 lacks.
Tegra 4i also comes with the Chimera photography architecture that enhances the photography experience on a mobile device.
In a nutshell, Tegra 4i will be meant for smartphones compared to Tegra 4 that will also make way to the tablets.
Nvidia has also created a reference smartphone called as Phoenix, allowing it to act as a blueprint to smartphone manufacturers to bring devices to the market quicker.
