Sling Media brings Slingbox to India

April 14, 2011 By Kunal Gangar Leave a Comment

Slingbox

Sling Media today announced their arrival in the Indian market with couple of Slingbox devices and an accessory. They unveiled the Slingbox 120 and Slingbox PRO-HD that will allow users to enjoy their home television right on their computer or any mobile device via the internet. Slingbox works by attaching it to the TV’s set top box, DVD/Blu-ray player or even a video camera and stream the TV content over the internet whenever and wherever he wants.

Slingbox 120 is priced at Rs.7,999 and can stream standard-definition (SD) content whereas the Slingbox PRO-HD will go for a special price of Rs.14,999 that can stream content up to 1080i. Streaming of content depends on the available bandwidth and Sling Media reckons anything around 1.5Mbps will be good for HD streaming, 600kbps for SD streaming and about 150kbps for mobile video streaming. Both Windows and Mac OS are supported and as for the mobile app, iOS, Android and Windows Phone are the compatible OSes.

Despite the good feature set, one thing missing from both the devices is the inclusion of Wi-Fi. The only way a user will be able to hook the Slingbox is to connect via the Ethernet port which is why Sling Media also launched the SlingLink. SlingLink comes in a pair that basically allows a user to connect their Slingbox with the router sitting in the other room. SlingLink will sell for Rs.4,999.
