Nintendo products are geared more towards kids which is why my 5-year old nephew likes his DSi more than my PSP. And since 3DS was just around the corner, an upgrade to 3-dimensional games would be a logical progression, right? Wrong. Nintendo has published a warning (in Japanese) that kids under six shouldn’t use 3DS’ USP – the 3D function. The reason according to Nintendo is that 3D images are shown simultaneously to the left and right eye and since their eyes are currently under “developmental stage,” exposure to 3D could have a “potential impact”, which in other words means damage their eyes.
Although it’s a good thing on Nintendo’s part to warn users beforehand, could this hamper sales of the 3DS?
As a precaution, Nintendo will provide a parental lock that will restrict 3D capability and can only be unlocked with the help of a PIN.
