Phones have become an integral part of our lives. No matter wherever we go or whatever we do a phone is something we’ll have in our pocket. Needless to say, these prized possessions are also subject to a lot of abuse like accidental drops, scratching against objects in pockets etc. and it becomes necessary for us to protect them.
There are many cases or covers available in the market that can do these things, however, only advertised. When it comes to real-life test, very few companies out there manufacture cases that really protect your phone and do not make them look bulky.
Otterbox is one of those companies who thankfully manufacture great cases that protect your phone as well as make them look good. Otterbox protective cases come in three different flavours, Defender, Commuter and Impact that offer varied level of protection. We today review the Otterbox Commuter series case for HTC Legend.
The packaging of the case comprises of a silicon back case, a ruggedized hard plastic shell and a screen protector with a squeegee.
The installation on the phone is pretty simple, first insert the phone in the silicon case, second, insert the phone with the silicon case in the hard plastic shell and lastly, wipe off the display clean and put the screen protector film using the squeegee to drive out the bubbles if any.
What we liked about the protection is that without adding any bulk, Otterbox offers three layers of protection that protects your phone from bumps and shock. The silicon case makes sure that the hard plastic shell does not damage or scratch the back of the phone, the hard outer case protects the phone from damages if fallen and the screen protector makes the screen scratch-proof that you always want. The hard plastic back shell actually features two designs. The top has a regular granular effect with uncovered slots for the camera and the speaker. The linear rough design on the second part houses the conventional ‘Otter Box’ branding. However, we felt the lower back case design can be improved as the phone was getting slippery on holding.
Adding to this, the case features cut-outs that provide easy access to all the buttons, audio jack and microUSB port. The case is available in only black colour unlike the iPhone cases that are available in other colours as well. The case retails for US$19.65 on Amazon or can be purchased from Otterbox.com or any online market place.
We find the price pretty reasonable as compared to the protection that it offers to your high priced smartphone.
Rating:
Pros: Three layer protection, Price
Cons: Back case slightly slippery
