Most new gadgets are subjected to a teardown and Microsoft’s new Kinect for Xbox 360 is no exception. Folks over at iFixit did the honors and have found some interesting things in this compact game controller.
Few noteworthy things found in the teardown are that the Kinect sports two cameras and one IR projector having a resolution of 320×240 and 640×480 for the IR cam and RGB cam respectively. iFixit says the cameras used are not meant for mobile phones but are “closer to the camera you might find in a webcam, with large lenses and autofocus.”
Kinect has a 64MB Hynix DDR2 SDRAM, a three-axis accelerometer for better tracking and a fan that indicates Microsoft’s seriousness about heat dissipation in a low power consuming device like Kinect.
