Razer as a brand might not mean much to an average Joe but ask the same thing to an avid PC gamer, he’ll bless the good Razer folks for churning out premium gaming accessories. Razer has now officially entered the Indian market and is targeting every gamer with different set of products at different price points. We recently tried out Razer’s Piranha analog headphones and this is what we think.
Packaging:
Razer Piranha’s packaging is standard like other Razer products. In addition to the headset, the box contains other Razer goodies like stickers, flyers etc.
Design:
Piranha is the cheapest headphone available from Razer but cheap does not translate to low-on-features. Piranha headphones boast a very simple yet ergonomic design. The headband is adjustable and the earcups are big enough to cover your whole ear. To enhance prolonged use of the headsets, the earcups as well as the upper part of the headband has a soft cushion. The cushion, although comfortable, tends to become sweaty due to the material of the earpad’s covering.
As for the microphone, its length seems just right and can be turned on or off with a button on the in-line remote control that is placed on the durable braided fiber cable. Speaking of the cable, the cable is connected to a single earcup for hassle free usage and has a length of 3m, which is quite good.
Performance:
To cut the long story short, Piranha is the not best sounding headphones but it is pretty good. The in-game sound is crisp and clear, right from the ambient noise to communication with other players.
However, if you’re like me, you would want to use Piranha for other things as well – like music. Unfortunately, the audio performance is a bit disappointing as compared to its performance during gaming.
The microphone, as I said, is well positioned and can be adjusted as per the user’s needs. The voice sensitivity and quality is good, making it a good VoIP set.
Conclusion:
Piranha may not suffice audiophiles who seek high audio fidelity but Piranha is a perfect match for those who want high-end-like features at an affordable price. It retails for $69.99 and Rs. 3,999 in India.
