At the earnings call yesterday, Motorola CEO, Sanjay Jha confirmed that they’ll be launching two Android devices this year. “We will have two Android devices (for the holidays in the U.S.),” said Jha. He also confirmed that more devices will be announced in the first of next year but did not reveal if it will be based on Android or not.
Motorola’s mobile division is still running into losses and the current objective, Jha noted is to increase the average selling prices and margins on handsets, which he reckons will be possible with Android devices.
Motorola posted $1.8 billion in mobile handset sales but when compared on a year-on-year basis, it was down by 45 percent. The operating loss for the quarter was reported at $253 million, which fared by $93 million a year ago.
