Apple too has started selling iPhone 3Gs without any contract. Though it will still be locked to AT&T, there will be no prerequisites. A person can buy as many iPhones, does not need to own an AT&T contract and the activation part will be handled by Apple iTunes. The price is obviously the same as what AT&T is offering: 8GB for $599 and 16GB for $699.
