Intel will soon be offering a high-end solution to the server market with the arrival of Xeon 7400 processor. Codenamed as Dunnington, the new Xeon processor comes with six cores of processing power, 16MB L3 cache fabricated on 45nm technology. Higher clock speeds have made way for parallel processing and platforms based on these processors can scale up to 16 processor “sockets” to deliver servers with up to 96 processing cores inside.
Apart from its core processing prowess, these processors have a clock speed ranging from 2.13GHz to 2.66GHz and are compatible with existing line of Xeon 7300 chipsets. The highest model goes for $2729.
