Today marks an important day in the Symbian history. Companies like Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, LG, Motorola, and NTT DOCOMO will come together to share S60, UIQ and MOAP(S), Symbian OS. This will make the platform open just like Android where any company can join. Nokia will buy the remaining Symbian shares and a new non-profit organization will be floated as Symbian Foundation which will contribute towards unified mobile platform. Nokia will be pooling its Symbian and S60 software expertise whereas SE and Motorola towards UIQ and Docomo with its MOAP apps. All in all, making of a worthy Android competitor.
