Samsung Electronics will be launching a Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) enabled phone in the Italian market. The SGH-P200 will allow free switching of networks from GSM to GPRS, EDGE or even WiFi. P200 will be the first UMA device to be sold commercially. Other features include a 1.9″ 262K TFT screen, 1.3 megapixel camera with flash, video and music player, Pictbridge functionality, document viewer and USB support. The phone lacks Bluetooth or IrDA and a limited space of 80MB. It measures 95x44x22.5mm and weighs 95 grams.
What is UMA?
UMA is a next-generation fixed-mobile convergence technology standard which allows for seamless handover between cellular networks and fixed IP networks (hot spots). Handsets with UMA technology allow free voice and data communication both in mobile and fixed modes.
