Archos has announced a new device that is more of a handheld gaming console than a tablet. Aptly named as GamePad, it is a 7-inch (WSVGA) device and features physical buttons and analog thumb-sticks for gaming. Archos also pre-loads a mapping tool that allows to map the on-screen controls of the unsupported games to the physical controls.
As for the specs, the tablet will run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, 1.6GHz dual-core CPU with Mali 400 MP GPU, 1GB RAM, Wi-Fi, 8GB internal memory, microSD card slot, mini-HDMI and Google Play support.
Archos is currently selling the GamePad for 149 euros in Europe and is expected to reach North America in Q1 2013.
