Here is some good news for Xperia X10 users. Sony Ericsson who previously shut doors to update the Xperia phone beyond Android 2.1, has now confirmed to give the Android 2.3.3 update. Sony Ericsson’s change of heart decision came after working on their 2011 range and felt Xperia X10 can be upgraded for a better experience.

Although Sony Ericsson will work to provide most of Gingerbread features, SE will remove and replace some features found in the Android 2.1 build like Moxier, Mediascape, Sony Ericsson Backup and Restore and support for bi-directional languages will be reduced.

Unbranded Xperia X10 users can expect the update in Q2 / early Q3 this year.

Xperia X10 owners rejoice as Sony Ericsson has confirmed the release of Android 2.1 update. Starting this Sunday, Nordic region-based X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro users will receive the update and will subsequently rolled out to users in other regions throughout November.

In addition to the OS upgrade, X10 and X10 mini / X10 mini pro will get new features like continuous autofocus 720p HD video recording, 5 home screens, new backup and restore application and social phonebook in Xperia X10 whereas X10 mini and X10 mini pro will get improved Bluetooth functionality, new backup and restore application, automatic sync of contact pictures with Facebook and phone book.

Sony Ericsson had promised to update Xperia X10 with Android 2.1 and though it’s the Éclair, they’ve released an update-worthy update that concentrates on improving the general performance of the device.

It’s an over-the-air update so users will receive a notification first in their notification bar to accept the update. Alternatively, users can download the update the phone by using PC software.

Few things that change in this update are the speed and responsiveness of the phone. The phone is considerably fast handling messaging tasks and camera. Furthermore, Sony Ericsson has also added a free backup and restore application.

The update is out in selected markets and will be rolled out subsequently in other markets as well.

Rounding up today’s announcements, Sony Ericsson confirmed that the Xperia X10 range that includes X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro will receive Android 2.1 update later next quarter. X10 will also add HD video recording functionality along with the update. In Q4, another update will be released specifically for X10 that will allow the phone to connect wirelessly to the television and display content on the TV set.

Also, Sony Ericsson announced a new phone dubbed as Xperia X8. This one runs on Android 1.6 and features a 600MHz CPU, 3-inch touchscreen display with corner touch UI, 3.2MP camera, TimeScape, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headphone jack, Google Android Market access and microSD card slot.

Phone will be available in selected markets in Q3.

Sony Ericsson’s one more device called as Shakira has danced its way out. The details are pretty slim on this one but is claimed to cater those who feel Xperia X10 to be big and Xperia X10 mini to be small to their liking. Shakira will be a moderately sized device and will feature a similar design to Xperia 10.

Additionally, it’s said to run Android 1.6, have the same screen aspect ratio of X10 and 3G.

Sony Ericsson’s Rachael has finally made its way out, by the name of Xperia X10. Sony Ericsson has made a very good effort in its first ever Android attempt that could give Motorola’s DROID a run for its money. Of course, it does not have a physical QWERTY keyboard or Android 2.0, the DROID/MILESTONE gets pipped in every other department.

Xperia X10 runs on Android 1.6 (Donut) and comes with a gigantic 4-inch display bearing a resolution of 854×480 pixels, well blended UI, 8MP camera with LED flash, 1GB internal memory with microSD card slot (8GB card included). The SE device also includes Qualcomm’s powerful 1GHz Snapdragon processor, making it the second Android device to integrate it after Acer Liquid.

Remaining features include HSDPA, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, Bluetooth, microUSB and 3.5mm audio jack.

The phone will come out in Q1 2010 in two color options – Luster White and Sensuous Black.

Hype sells products and this is what Sony Ericsson is trying to do. They’ve released a teaser video of their first Android-based device to build anticipation amongst consumers. Rachael aka Xperia X10/X3 is shown in pristine white from different angles with the clip ending to reveal its November 3 unveiling date.

Sony Ericsson What’s Next

Sony Ericsson tried their best to put up a teaser for an upcoming Android Xperia phone but alas, their tease was shortlived. The “What’s Next” teaser asked readers to check back on November 3 but eager sleuths at SE-Blog quickly checked the source that had a mention of Rachael. While most of the traces have been wiped out, you can still see the Sony Ericsson home page link with Rachael in it.

If that was not enough, Sony Ericsson’s South African outlet totally nailed it by confirming the teaser site for Project Rachael (the tweet has been deleted).

Rachael or Xperia X10/X3 has been leaked quite a few times before and is rumored to have 4-inch touchscreen display, quad-band GSM, 8MP camera with autofocus and LED flash, A-GPS, 3.5mm AV connector, Wi-Fi and microSD slot.
