Sony Japan’s website has put up a banner suggesting a new VAIO Ultra Mobile device is incoming. The teaser banner unsurprisingly, does not reveal anything but one mole tells Engadget that the new device is none other than an updated VAIO P. The internal specs are still under wraps but the paperclip besides the text is claimed to be the shape of the device when looked from the side and the orange hue suggests the notebook’s color. Needless to say, we’ll keep a close eye on this one.

Sony Vaio P has a very lovable form factor but the lovingly opinion quickly changes into a frustrating one due to the underperforming software and hardware. Good thing now is that Sony wants to change it and the change will come with the advent of a new Vaio P computer dubbed as Vaio P mark 2. The intrinsic details still remain a mystery but Sony has promised the new Vaio P will boot faster than the current generation of such pocketable computers. The new Vaio P is expected to come in October.

There are many Sony Vaio P fans out there but I am sure most of them are bugged with a common grievance – slow processor. It looks like this is going to be changed soon as folks over at Sony Insider have managed to get some valuable info. Vaio Ps sold in US hail from the 500 Series (for instance, VGN-P530H/G). However, new model numbers surfaced reveal the 700 Series which supposedly points out that Sony might be bumping up the processor or RAM or storage. The new models are: VGN-P710T/B, VGN-P710T/R, VGN-P710T/G, VGN-P710T/W, VGN-P730A/Q and VGN-P730T/Q.

The updated Vaio Ps are expected to arrive in Summer.

UPDATE: Lenovo Pocket Yoga is just a concept.

The image which we saw a few days back that hinted on Lenovo’s version of Vaio P has now been confirmed by Lenovo’s official Flickr stream. Images uploaded on the stream shows Pocket Yoga in full glory. As seen in the sketch, the netbook will sport a touchscreen display. It will also have a digitizer and the possibility to flip the screen backwards and use it as a tablet (no tilting possible though because of the design).

Specifications are not revealed yet but our guess is that it will try to best Vaio P with superior specs and a decent price.

What do we have here? It looks like Lenovo was pretty awed by Sony Vaio P’s design that they decided to churn out their own version. The picture is claimed to be taken at Lenovo’s office in Beijing, China but it is still uncertain if the pictured device is a working model, a prototype or just a designer’s wild thought.

By the way, the Lenovo notebook is somewhat different from the original. The exterior is covered with leather and the track nub is oddly placed at the top right of the keyboard (notice the blue button?). Couple of more pics over here.

We have been getting timely details on Sony’s Vaio P portable device but never managed to get the picture in full glory. Well, here it is. Engadget, taking advantage of the official partner status managed to sneak in some photos from the large display monitors placed at the Sony booth. It looks good but don’t expect it to be cheap.

By the way, our wild guess was spot on. This device does not have a trackpad and the nub will handle all the mouse pointing duties.

More blurry pics over, here.
