The U and UX Series which first made its appearance at the CeBIT this year has been given the official acknowledgement along with the full specifications. The U Series comprises of five different models with screen size ranging from 12.1-inch to 15.6-inches and are said to take a design inspiration from butterflies.

The notebooks come with an option of Intel’s CULV or Core 2 Duo processors, GeForce G 105M GPU, up to 500GB HDD and up to 4GB RAM. They also boast Express Gate instant OS that boots in as quickly as 8 seconds.

Asus is keeping the specs of UX Series (pictured above) tightly under wraps but they have let loose a few details of the U Series. Two notebooks expected under the U Series are U20 and U50. The distinguishing points between the two is still unclear but the U Series notebooks will sport a 15.6-inch screen, Intel Core 2 Duo processor, HDD storage up to 500GB, Nvidia GeForce G105M GPU with 512MB memory and Altec Lansing speakers with SRS.

Asus is showing few other notebooks in addition to what we already know. The Asus U and UX series notebooks which Asus claims to have set new standards in mobile computing. The exact specs are not known (you can guess a few from the image) but the notebooks’ chassis is made to resemble a butterfly’s arch wing painted in black color.

It offers chiclet styled keyboard with backlight and also has light sensors, which optimizes the keyboard backlight as well as the LED lit screen according to the outside light conditions. The keyboard has a numeric keypad, hinting that the screen size will not be small (at least 16-inch).

We are not sure with this one but the UX series will probably have a slot-in optical drive while the U series will have a conventional optical drives.
