HTC has finally released the much awaited bootloader unlock service. The first device in the list is HTC’s top-end Europe-specific Sensation. Sensation users will be able to unlock their phones’ bootloader which will allow them to root their device and even install custom ROMs. Despite releasing an official tool, HTC is quick to note that an unlocked bootloader may have some drawbacks, which for instance, could void all or part of the manufacturer’s warranty.

HTC has confirmed that any phone launched in 2011 (prior to September) will have an option to unlock the boot loader.

The iPhone-Dev team has released a newer version of Ultrasn0w tool for iPhone 3G/3GS users running the latest iOS 4.2.1. The unlock will allow users to use their phones on different carriers using the same AT+XAPP command exploit, which Apple reportedly fixed previously.

The new Pwnage Tool and redsn0w 0.9.6 beta 5 will update the phone’s baseband firmware to 06.15, which is said to be used in the iPad and is compatible with both the iPhone variants. The ultrasn0w can then be downloaded through Cydia by adding the official ultrasn0w repo.

Although it seems luring, updating the baseband could have its own repercussions like no way to downgrade to an official iPhone 3G/3GS baseband, could void the warranty and can’t even restore to stock firmware (will need custom IPSWs).

If you’re using a Samsung Galaxy S device locked to a particular network, modders from XDAdevelopers have found a way to unlock the device and break you from the shackles of your current operator.

The tool is said to work for European Galaxy S and US-based Galaxy S devices like T-Mobile’s Vibrant and AT&T’s Captivate that manages to extract unlock codes from the .BAK file stored on the device.

The procedure is simple and good thing is that you don’t need to root the device to perform the unlock.

The iPhone Dev team has put an end to the wait of iPhone 4 users wanting to use the device on another carrier. The v1.0-1 unlocks all iPhone 4s with 01.59 baseband and iPhone 3G/3GS with basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01 and 05.13.04.

Interested users will need to first jailbreak the device with Jailbreakme and then add ultrasn0w repo from the Cydia.

The iPhone Dev team seems to be hard at work since the release of iOS 4. They’ve released their PwnageTool for Mac that allows to jailbreak iPhone 3GS. It also supports jailbreaking of iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G but users have the option to jailbreak with redsn0w as well.

The jailbreak will allow iPhone 3G / 3GS users to unlock their devices from any baseband with their ultrasn0w tool (downloadable from Cydia) but the team has spelled caution not to update devices blindly so as not to lose the unlocked feature.

The first-gen iPhone and iPod touch as well as iPod touch 3G are not supported yet.

Unlock for iPhone 3G/3GS users on baseband 05.11.07 was impossible until now but as promised, Geohot has released Blacksn0w that unlocks iPhones running on OS v3.1.2 with the new baseband. The new unlock comes with hacktivation support, 15 second faster than previous solutions, tethering and easier than ever.

For new users:
- Go to blackra1n.com
- Download the app as per your OS
- Connect your iPhone and run the app to “make it ra1n”
- Phone will reboot and run the blackra1n.app that will be on the screen
- Install blacksn0w and feel liberated!

For existing blackra1n users:
- Run blackra1n.app
- Icy will be replaced with “ra1n”
- Run it and it will upgrade the app
- After that run blackra1n.app again
- Blacksn0w will appear and run it. Voila!

Mac users waiting for the jailbreak solution can quickly head to the iPhone Dev blog to download the latest version of PwnageTool. The PwnageTool 3.1.4 for Mac OS X jailbreaks iPhone 2G/3G/3GS and iPod Touch 1G/2G running OS v3.1.2 which can also unlock by installing ultrasn0w via Cydia.

Oh iPhone 3GS unlockers, you really are spoilt for choices now. If you thought the iPhone Dev team were Gods in this scene, GeoHot too has come to the party to attain the same tag with his Purplesn0w unlock tool. Even though it’s a soft unlock, GeoHot claims it as good as a true unlock that is very light and does not add additional tasks to the baseband.

Here are the instructions to follow:

Be sure to have legit activated 3GS
Disable 3G if you don’t have it(like T-Mobile).
Add apt.geohot.com to Cydia
Install com.geohot.purplesn0w
Watch for success output in Cydia
Reboot, and enjoy your unlocked iPhone

The iPhone Dev team has updated its jailbreaking and unlocking solutions to v0.8 that integrates iPhone 3GS jailbreaking and unlocking support. Download the redsn0w for Windows, Linux or Mac from the link below and then install Ultrasn0w 0.8 from Cydia. Though we’re not sure, the ultrasn0w unlock should work with purplera1n jailbroken devices since it uses Cydia to download the app.

UPDATE: an iPhone 3GS jailbreak tool ‘Purplera1n’ has been released.

The iPhone Dev Team has done it again. Check out the video showing the iPhone 3GS succumbing to Ultrasn0w and working flawlessly over another network (T-Mobile in this case). The Ultrasn0w tool uses at+xlog vulnerability to inject the unlocking payload, which actually works like the iPhone 3G unlock. One word of caution though, 3GSers should not update to the iPhone OS 3.1 if they want this unlock.
