To complement the launch of slotMusic cards, the marketing wizards at SanDisk have come up with a music player dubbed as Sansa slotMusic player. In simple parlance, it is a no frills music player which relies on external storage (only microSD cards) for music. Pop-in a slotMusic card or microSD card up to 16GB filled with music and you’ve got a decent music player in your hands.

A basic black colored player will sell for $20 a piece whereas an artist-branded player which includes an artist’s design on the outer shell and a 1GB slotMusic card will go for $35. US is bound to get the player pretty soon in Wal-Mart and Best Buy. Rest of the world, in case you’re interested, early 2009 is the destined schedule.

SanDisk, the inventor of microSD cards has decided to use the format to explore new regions other than data storage. They have unveiled slotMusic 1GB microSD cards which hold high quality (up to 320kbps bitrate), DRM-free MP3 music from publishers like EMI Music, SONY BMG, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group. Users can play the music by just inserting the card into any microSD card enabled device or with a USB sleeve if you’re playing on a PC or a laptop.

SanDisk will sell these cards in US at Best Buy and Wal-Mart before the holiday season kicks off. And just in case you’re wondering about the reusability of the card, then the answer is positive. Users can add in their own content.
